Treehouse of Horror are on the come-up; despite symbolizing Toronto's answer to the new wave of young screamo, the 3-piece are working harder & smarter than their contemporaries in a way that betrays a veteran's sensibility. Having upped the ante on last year's 12" split with Please Don't Crash & boxcutter, Treehouse are ready to demonstrate just how much they've leveled up since their first EP nearly 2 years ago. Forgoing the ease of straight-ahead chaos or conventional song structures, these 4 tracks effortlessly weave together angelic melodies & razor-sharp panic chords while balancing unpredictable rhythms that never fail to move your body.

"let's pretend" is pure emo: a stunning reflection on youth that still finds time to show off via jittery guitars & titanic drumming. "so that's what you meant when you said "life is like a loaded gun"" tests their melodic chops while "heads or tails" is their most danceable song yet, unafraid of crossing into pop territory before closing out with a mournful Western anthem that's guaranteed to get stuck in your head. "day terrors" stands tall as their crowning achievement, moving through 4 minutes of complete emotional catharsis and hitting climax after climax until it collapses under its own weight. Everything about the writing here is more intricate, more detailed, and surprisingly heavy when you least expect it—immediately trumping their debut and announcing Treehouse's arrival as a different band entirely.

MRMNG08, 7" pink vinyl record. 100 copies, released July 2024.
