"Setting out to recapture the energy and heft of '90s noise rock and post-hardcore, Sundowner began hammering out rough sketches of their sound in 2022. Holed up in a cramped, blood-stained practice room under one of Toronto’s coolest dive bars, the power trio committed a raw, foreboding and ear-splittingly loud demo to tape. Inspired as much by Unwound and Drive Like Jehu as The Jesus Lizard and Bleach-era Nirvana, Cole, Nick and Isaac took their guitar fits onto the road.

A year of near-constant touring around the Greater Toronto Area has sharpened Sundowner’s steel to an icy blade, and the February 2024 release of their 5-song EP Asbestos Tiles is a ferocious reminder that hard work and refinement creates captivating art. With a reputation for exhilarating and highly physical live performances, Asbestos Tiles is the first document to truly capture the steamroller that is Sundowner.
